The client for this project came to us with a brief to build a new version of the Californian Bungalow-style house, but using all new materials.

A combination of sandstone, brickwork, cedar windows, expressed jointing in the lightweight cladding and exposed rafters from a pallete of the original materials and colours of the Californian Bungalow.

The patio provides a connection from the inside living spaces to a courtyard, and incporporates bi-fold doors that extend the length of the patio, bringing the two zones together and making for a beautiful open space.

The staircase is located in the foyer vestibule within a two storey void, and a main bedroom suite is nestled upstairs within the roof form.

This development, in a historical area in Epping, successfully integrates into traditional fabric of the surrounding area – complimenting rather than conflicting as new developments often do.
